The \u201cnushi\u201d<\/em> (Japanese lacquerer) \u201cZenni\u201d<\/em> set out to sell his products all over Japan.<\/dd>\n
1972<\/dt>\n
“Wajimaya Honten” was incorporated with capital of 26 million yen.<\/dd>\n
1980~<\/dt>\n
We started to promote the restoration of urushi<\/em> (Japanese lacquer) culture, based on the theme of \u201cCreating the finest products in the lacquerware history of Wajima\u201d<\/dd>\n
1983<\/dt>\n
We opened 2 tea rooms that were coated entirely with urushi, the first in this industry.<\/dd>\n
1984<\/dt>\n
We established a design studio that specializes in lacquerware design, the only one in Japan.<\/dd>\n
1990<\/dt>\n
We restored \u201cNushi-no-ie<\/em> (Lacquerer\u2019s House)\u201d in Wajima and it was praised as the most beautiful machiya<\/em>, traditional merchant’s house in Japan by experts.<\/dd>\n
1997<\/dt>\n
We initiated the reforestation effort in Joboji, Iwate prefecture by planting urushi trees, the first as a lacquer manufacturer.<\/dd>\n
1999<\/dt>\n
We set our goal higher, \u201cCreating the finest products in the lacquerware history of Japan\u201d<\/dd>\n
2002<\/dt>\n
We held a exhibition \u201cUrushi – The Design of Soul\u201d at Daimaru Museum, Tokyo.<\/dd>\n
2007<\/dt>\n
In March, the building of workshop was seriously damaged because of the big earthquake.<\/dd>\n
2008<\/dt>\n
We rebuilded the new workshop.<\/dd>\n
2011<\/dt>\n
Three companies merged and it became the new company name \u201cWajimaya Zenni Co., Ltd.\u201d.<\/dd>\n
2014<\/dt>\n
We opened a showroom in the workshop.<\/dd>\n
2018<\/dt>\n
From our lacquer trees planted in 1997, the first lacquer sap was collected.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n
